About this symbol
Unicode calls this the place of interest sign, from its use in Scandinavia to mark sights and attractions on maps and road signs. Most people know it as the Command key on Apple keyboards.
When the original Macintosh was being designed in the early 1980s, Steve Jobs objected to the Apple logo appearing over and over in the menus. The designer Susan Kare looked through a dictionary of symbols, found this one, and it has been on the Mac’s keyboard since 1984.
