About this symbol

A lozenge is a diamond taller than it is wide. Cough lozenges were named after the shape, which they once had, in the 1500s. In heraldry, women’s coats of arms were traditionally shown on a lozenge rather than a shield.

In logic ◊ means “possibly”, so ◊p reads as “p may be true”, the partner of □ for “necessarily”.
